The woolly mammoth, also known as the true mammoth, is a species of animal belonging to the mammoth family in the order Longsnout of mammals. It is covered in long hair and has a tall body. It existed during the Ice Age and is the most famous extinct elephant. Its body size is similar to that of the Asian elephant, but its hind legs are short and its entire body tilts backwards.
